Patient Education/Wellness for the family

Diabetic Management

Diabetic Management

A diet plan with breakfast items and a tape measure.

Control of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes is very important for prevention of multi system complications. Diet and exercise are two very important changes. Know your risk and that it is important to get tested yearly. Visit www.diabetes.org to obtain further information.

Hypertension

Diabetic Management

Blood pressure monitor and stethoscope on wooden surface.

Hypertension is also known as the silent killer. Similar to diabetes, it is also associated with multi system complications. Controlled blood pressure is a reading of less than 130/80. Visit www.heart.org/en/health-topics/high-blood-pressure/the-facts-about-high-blood-pressure/what-is-high-blood-pressure to obtain information on ways to help control blood pressure.

Cholesterol

Person holding a muffin in one hand and a green apple in the other.

Cholesterol is a component of blood and cells. The body needs some cholesterol to help organs function. There are two types of cholesterol in the body. LDL cholesterol is considered bad cholesterol and HDL is considered good cholesterol. When LDL levels get to high or HDL gets too low, this can place people at risk for heart attack.

Immunizations

A child receiving a vaccination shot with a cotton ball.

Childhood immunizations help to protect against diseases such as measles, polio, tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis which can have deadly effects. This is a personal decision for parents. Education is key and choices should be made on information that is valid. Please visit www.cdc.gov/vaccines/parents/childhood-vaccines/index.html for further information.

Cold Viruses

Young girl blowing her nose with a tissue, showing signs of a cold.

Antibiotics seem to be the "cure all" for whatever ailment someone may have. Antibiotics abuse has lead to many cases of resistance. It is very important to understand that while antibiotics are effective for treating bacterial infections, it is not effective for viruses. Visit www.cdc.gov/antibiotic-use/community/about/should-know.html for more information.
